BACHELOR OF MEDICINE AND SURGERY

(MBBS)

INTRODUCTION

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of USIM shall award the degree of ‘Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery’ (MBBS) to its successful candidates. Basically, the program is divided into two equal phases, namely, pre-clinical and clinical phases with Islamic input integrated throughout the six-year program.

Duration:
The Medical Program of the faculty spans over a period of 6 years. The majority of the students will be from Pusat Tamhidi USIM, which conducts a one-year Medical Matriculation program. The academic session in each year is divided into two semesters. There are 15 weeks of academic session in each semester in year 1 and year 2 and 16 weeks per semester in year 3.The duration of each semester in the clinical phase (year 4,5 and 6) depends on the duration of the postings.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

1.1          A Pass in Tamhidi USIM (Medicine/ Dentistry/ Science and Technology) with

CGPA of at least 3.50

AND

 1.2       A pass in Tamhidi USIM (Medicine/ Dentistry/ Science and Technology) with

CGPA of at least 3.00 in the following subjects:

1.2.1    Biology

1.2.2    Chemistry

1.2.3     Physics or Mathematics

AND

1.3         Pass SPM/ Any other qualification equivalent with at least B in the following

subjects:

                1.3.1       Biology;

                1.3.2       Chemistry;

                1.3.3       Physics;

                1.3.4       Mathematics or Additional Mathematics;

                1.3.5       Either ONE (1) other subject.

AND

1.4       Obtained at least Band 3 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET);

AND

1.5       Pass the interview.

AND      

1.6         All applicants shall declare if they have:

                1.6.1       been found guilty of any criminal offence(s);

                1.6.2       serious physical or mental illness; and/ or;

                1.6.3       serious communicable disease(s)

which may impact upon their future practice.

AND

1.7       A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a medical

programme:

1.7.1       found guilty of offence(s) affecting the human body;

1.7.2       recent or serious dishonesty e.g. cheating at examinations, falsification of

documents, plagiarism;

1.7.3       serious physical or mental illness; and/ or

1.7.4       serious communicable disease(s).

Any failure to declare information that has a material influence on a student‟s fitness to practise may lead to termination of their medical course, as honesty, integrity and good health are essential attributes of a doctor and by extension, the medical student.
