Following the voice of the national leadership and the needs of the nation, a committee was set up in 2002 for the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The proposal for this establishment was finally approved by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education of Malaysia at the end of 2003. The Faculty officially began on 1st June 2004 when the Founding Dean reported for duty.
The pioneer batch of 29 students started on 3rd July 2005 and the second batch of 46 students came on 2nd July 2006. With this modest numbers, the Faculty began the medical program leading to the degree of MBBS. Although only a few very dedicated lecturers were available then, then Faculty has been blessed and many experienced lecturers form other senior universities especially from UKM came to teach as part-time lecturers. Three professors from Egypt were also recruited. In the meantime, the faculty has recruited several young trainee lecturers and tutors to be sent for further training in various fields. In a couple of years, they should be back to carry on the responsibilities of teaching. The faculty will continue to get more young doctors to become lecturers. These people are accepting the challenge to develop this youngest faculty of medicine.
Although using a rented building, sufficient and modern learning facilities are available for the students. It is our mission to become a leading medical institution and produce doctors with adequate medical knowledge integrated with Islamic values and use modern technologies to solve health and social problems. To all the staff of the faculty, it is Fardhu Kifayah. The society as a whole has a responsibility to help the faculty to succeed. We will strive and work hard to achieve these goals.
Kindest regards
Professor Dato' Nik Mohd Nasri Nik Ismail |
